30 DAYS OF NIGHT [2007] – Official Trailer (HD) | Now on Disc and Digital

The story begins with the town preparing for the prolonged darkness. Many residents leave to escape the isolation, but a smaller group stays behind, including Sheriff Eben Oleson (played by Josh Hartnett) and his estranged wife, Stella (Melissa George), a fire marshal. The couple is navigating their strained relationship amid the challenges of living in a remote, frozen town.

As the sun sets for the final time, a mysterious stranger (Ben Foster) arrives, sabotaging the town’s communications and warning of impending doom. Soon after, the town is attacked by a pack of bloodthirsty vampires, led by the terrifying Marlow (Danny Huston). These creatures are unlike traditional vampires—they are savage predators who revel in the darkness, preying on the helpless townspeople with brutal efficiency.

Eben and Stella, along with a small group of survivors, take refuge in various hiding spots across the town, hoping to outlast the month of darkness. As they struggle to survive, the vampires systematically hunt them down, creating an atmosphere of relentless dread. The group faces not only the immediate threat of the vampires but also the harsh Alaskan cold, dwindling supplies, and growing tensions among themselves.

The film builds to a climactic confrontation between Eben and Marlow. In a desperate bid to save Stella and the remaining survivors, Eben injects himself with vampire blood, transforming into a hybrid with enough strength to fight Marlow. The ensuing battle is both brutal and tragic, as Eben ultimately sacrifices his humanity to protect the ones he loves.

30 Days of Night stands out for its unique setting and relentless tension. The film’s stark cinematography captures the bleak, snow-covered landscape, amplifying the isolation and despair. The vampires, with their primal behavior and alien language, offer a fresh take on the genre, delivering an unforgettable horror experience. It’s a story of survival, sacrifice, and the darkness—both literal and metaphorical—that humans and monsters bring into the world.
