The live-action adaptation of Disney’s 2016 animated film “Moana” is slated for release on July 10, 2026.together a talented cast to reimagine the beloved story.
Catherine Lagaʻaia stars as Moana, marking her film debut. Expressing her excitement, Lagaʻaia shared, “I’m really excited to embrace this character because Moana is one of my favorites… I’m honored to have an opportunity to celebrate Samoa and all Pacific Island peoples, and to represent young girls who look like me.”
Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui, the demigod who aids Moana on her journey. The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s father; Frankie Adams as Sina, Moana’s mother; and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala, Moana’s grandmother.
The film’s production began in Atlanta in July 2024 and concluded in Hawaii by November 2024. The choice of locations aims to authentically capture the Polynesian setting central to Moana’s story.
Mark Mancina, who composed the original film’s score, returns to provide the musical backdrop for this adaptation, ensuring continuity in the film’s auditory experience.
