The story opens with a flashback, revealing how the extraterrestrial sand-dwelling entity came to Earth. A mysterious meteor shower struck a remote coastal town, contaminating the beaches with alien spores. These spores transformed the sand into a death trap, devouring anything that dared touch it.
In the present, we return to the survivors of the first film, led by Kaylee (Brooke Butler) and Mitch (Mitchel Musso), who managed to escape the beach but remain haunted by the horrors they endured. They now live in a heavily guarded coastal settlement, where strict quarantine measures keep people away from the infected sands.
