John Carter 2: Gods of Mars (2025)

The story picks up with John Carter (played once again by Taylor Kitsch) unexpectedly transported back to Barsoom after discovering a long-forgotten artifact on Earth. He awakens in the Valley Dor, the sacred afterlife of Barsoom, only to realize it’s a treacherous realm dominated by the sinister Therns, an ancient, manipulative race that exerts control over the planet. Stranded and without allies, Carter must rely on his strength, wits, and experience to navigate this hostile territory.

Carter’s arrival coincides with the rise of a new and terrifying threat: the Kaang, ancient Martian gods awoken from slumber. They seek to reclaim Barsoom for themselves, unleashing chaos and destruction across the planet. The Kaang wield immense powers and command armies of monstrous creatures, making them nearly unstoppable. Carter, still grappling with his role as a hero of Mars, must rally Barsoom’s fragmented factions to stand against these deities.

Amidst the turmoil, Carter reunites with allies old and new. Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), the Princess of Helium, emerges as a pivotal leader rallying the Red Martians, while Tars Tarkas (voiced by Willem Dafoe), the mighty Thark chieftain, aids Carter in uniting the Green Martians. Along the way, Carter encounters Thuvia of Ptarth, a warrior-princess with her own motives and a fierce loyalty to her people. Together, they embark on a perilous journey to uncover the secrets of the Kaang and find a way to challenge their godlike powers.

The film delves into themes of sacrifice, unity, and redemption as Carter struggles with his place between two worlds. He must confront the Therns’ manipulations and rally Barsoom’s people against an overwhelming force. The climactic battle tests Carter’s resolve and leadership, while also exploring his deep connection to Barsoom.

With breathtaking visuals, thrilling action sequences, and a richly woven narrative, John Carter 2: Gods of Mars brings Burroughs’ Martian epic to life in a way that appeals to both fans of the books and newcomers to the series.
